|Urge to learn and dance again|
|"By going to music kutcheries and dance
performances, memories of my past were revived . Singing to myself has always been a part
of me and involuntarily abhinaya was practiced in my mind. I sometimes sang at social
get-togethers and I think l surprised people with my capabilities.
For someone who has spent years from childhood on learning and performing, it is not possible to forget all that one has learnt. It lies tucked away in the subconscious. When Chandru was posted to Bombay in 1960, I took up dancing for a short while at Rajarajeswari Bharatha Natya Kala Mandir. When I approached them they readily accepted to teach me as I was fairly well known, and I was put under the tutelage of the senior most Guru, Sri Kuppiah Pillai. Smt. Karunambal also taught me . I had to temper my dancing to suit their style -Thanjavur Bani which is fairly similar to the Vazhuvur style. It rekindled my dancing abilities and made me aware that I was still very much there! After a short period in Bombay, we got transferred to Hyderabad. I would have liked to have spent more time there, and perhaps perform. "
